Anti-Spam Policy
Webzi maintains a zero tolerance policy towards sending unsolicited email (spam). Sending spam from our infrastructure is strictly prohibited and may result in immediate account suspension without right to refund.
1. Definition of Spam
Spam is considered any email that meets one or more of the following characteristics:
- Email sent to recipients who have not given their express consent to receive it
- Bulk email sent to purchased, rented, or harvested lists without authorization
- Email that does not comply with Opt-In requirements
- Email with false sender or subject information (spoofing)
- Email that does not include a functional unsubscribe mechanism
- Phishing, fraud, or malicious content emails
2. Opt-In (Consent) Requirements
All bulk or marketing email sending must comply with the Opt-In principle:
| Type | Description | Allowed |
|---|---|---|
| Single Opt-In | User subscribes once (form, purchase, registration) | Yes |
| Double Opt-In | User confirms subscription via email (recommended) | Yes (preferred) |
| Opt-Out | Adding users without consent and waiting for them to unsubscribe | No |
| Purchased lists | Lists acquired from third parties without direct consent | No |
Important: The customer must be able to demonstrate that they have consent from each recipient in case of a spam investigation.
3. Prohibited Practices
The following practices are strictly prohibited:
- Buying, renting, or trading email lists
- Collecting email addresses by scraping websites
- Using software to extract emails from the internet (harvesting)
- Adding addresses without explicit consent from the owner
- Forging email headers or sender information
- Sending emails with misleading or fraudulent subjects
- Using bulk sending scripts without throttling (rate limiting)
- Operating email marketing services for third parties without authorization
- Sending emails to addresses collected from data breaches
4. Email Sending Limits
Webzi establishes sending limits to protect the reputation of our IPs and ensure email deliverability for all our customers:
| Service Type | Hourly Limit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Shared Hosting | 100-500 emails/hour | Varies by plan |
| Business Email | 200-1,000 emails/hour | Varies by plan |
| Reseller Hosting (per account) | 100-300 emails/hour | Configurable by reseller |
| VPS / Dedicated | No fixed limit | Subject to anti-spam policies |
Check your plan specifications for the exact limit. If you need to send higher volumes legitimately, consider using a specialized email marketing service (Mailchimp, SendGrid, Amazon SES, etc.).
5. Throttling for Mailing Lists
If you manage mailing lists or newsletters, you must configure throttling (rate limiting) in your sending software:
- Configure sending at least 1 email every 10-15 seconds
- This equals approximately 240-360 emails per hour
- Never attempt to send your entire list at once
Why? Without throttling, the server will attempt to send thousands of emails simultaneously, causing overload that affects all customers on the server. This will result in your account being suspended.
6. Email Authentication (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
To improve deliverability and prevent your emails from being marked as spam, we recommend configuring the following DNS records:
- SPF (Sender Policy Framework): Indicates which servers can send email on behalf of your domain
- DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail): Digital signature that verifies email authenticity
- DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication): Policy that indicates what to do with emails that fail SPF/DKIM
Webzi automatically configures basic SPF and DKIM records for domains hosted on our servers. For custom configurations, consult our knowledge base or contact support.
7. Blacklists
Sending spam can cause Webzi IP addresses to be included in international blacklists such as:
- Spamhaus (SBL, XBL, PBL)
- Barracuda Reputation Block List
- SpamCop
- SORBS
- Other RBL/DNSBL lists
When an IP is listed, all customers sharing that IP may experience email delivery issues. For this reason, Webzi takes any spam incident very seriously.
8. Consequences of Sending Spam
Actions Webzi will take for spam incidents:
| Incident | Action |
|---|---|
| First time (minor) | Written warning + temporary email sending suspension |
| Second time | Account suspension for 48-72 hours |
| Third time | Permanent account cancellation without refund |
| Severe spam (phishing, malware) | Immediate suspension without prior notice + possible report to authorities |
| IP listed on blacklist | Immediate suspension + liability for damages |
9. Liability for Damages
If spam sent from your account causes one or more Webzi IP addresses to be included in blacklists, the customer will be responsible for:
- Management costs to remove the IP from blacklists
- Compensation to affected customers for service degradation
- Administrative and investigation costs
- Any additional damages arising from the incident
Webzi reserves the right to bill these costs to the responsible customer and to take legal action if necessary.
10. Compromised Email Accounts
If an email account is compromised by an attacker and starts sending spam:
- Our monitoring system will detect the anomalous sending
- The account password will be changed immediately without prior notice
- The customer will be notified by email and/or ticket
- The customer must set a secure password and verify that their devices are malware-free
Recurrence: If the same account is compromised on more than 3 occasions, Webzi reserves the right to permanently delete that email account.
Security recommendations:
- Use strong passwords (minimum 12 characters, uppercase, lowercase, numbers, symbols)
- Do not reuse passwords from other services
- Keep your devices malware-free
- Do not access your email from public WiFi networks without a VPN
- Enable two-factor authentication if available
11. Legal Framework
Email sending is regulated by various laws depending on jurisdiction. The customer is responsible for complying with applicable legislation, including:
- Mexico: Federal Law for the Protection of Personal Data Held by Private Parties (LFPDPPP)
- United States: CAN-SPAM Act
- European Union: General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- Canada: CASL (Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation)
Failure to comply with these laws may result in significant fines imposed by the corresponding authorities, regardless of actions taken by Webzi.
12. Protection Against Incoming Spam
To protect your email accounts from incoming spam, Webzi offers:
- cPanel Filters: Configure custom filters to block unwanted senders
- SpamAssassin: Included in all plans, detects and flags suspicious emails
- BoxTrapper: Requires sender verification before delivering emails
